A REFRIGERATION firm based in Grays has been fined for neglecting chemical safety after a drum of paint thinners caught fire.
CLB Refrigeration, of Parkside, had not properly assessed safety risks at its site in Ferry Lane, Rainham.
A fireball erupted in a brazier at the site in October 2012.
The Health and Safety Executive told Southwark Crown Court the firm did not know how workers used the dangerous substance.
The company admitted breaching regulations and paid a £22,500 fine and £9,243 costs.
HSE inspector Monica Babb said: “CLB Refrigeration should have been aware of what dangerous substances their workers were using and how.”
